Is this name free, and what will it really cost?

Type a name, or just the part before the dot, and we’ll ask the registries whether it looks unregistered. Then compare first-year, renewal and three-year prices. We don’t sell domains.

A full name such as example.com, or just example to try the most common endings.

Without an ending we try .com .net .org .io .co .app.

Nothing checked yet

Your answer shows up here, with the registrars’ prices for the first year, renewals and three years.

Two kinds of premium

A registry premium name costs more to register and often to renew every year, set by the registry. An aftermarket name is already registered and its owner sells it once, at their price. Very short names are often one or the other, so we mark them “often premium”.

What this checks

  • The registry for each ending, over RDAP: does it hold the name?
  • Public DNS: does the name have nameservers?
  • Our price table: first year, renewal and transfer per registrar, with the date each was checked
  • We never say “available, buy now”: only a registrar can sell you the name

What we keep

Only a daily count of how many checks ran and how they ended. Not the name you typed, not your address, no cookies. To answer, the name is sent to the registry for its ending (and sometimes to its registrar), and the answer is kept on our server for up to an hour so a second check is instant.

Questions people ask

Does “looks unregistered” mean I can buy it?

Usually, but not always. Registries keep some names reserved or sell them at premium prices, and a name can be registered seconds after you check. A registrar’s search is the final word.

Why does the renewal cost more than the first year?

Many registrars discount the first year and charge their normal price from the second. That’s why we show a three-year total and flag renewals that jump by half or more.

Do you earn money from these registrars?

No. There are no affiliate links, and the order is simply the cheapest three-year total first.
