Who owns this domain?

Type a domain and we’ll ask its registry who it’s registered with, how old it is, when it expires and whether it can be transferred. Free, with no sign-up.

For example example.com. Pasting a whole web address is fine; we’ll pick out the name.

Nothing checked yet

Your report shows up here: the registrar, the dates, the status in plain words and how to reach the owner.

What this checks

  • The registrar it’s registered with, with its IANA ID
  • When it was registered, how old it is and when it expires
  • Its status in plain words: active, grace period, redemption and more
  • Whether it can be moved to another registrar now
  • Its nameservers, and whether DNSSEC is on
  • Whether owner details are hidden, and how to reach the owner

Everything comes from the registry for the name’s ending, found through IANA’s public list of registries. We never ask a third-party lookup site.

What we keep

Only a daily count of how many checks ran and how they ended. Not the name you typed, not your address, no cookies. To answer, the name is sent to the registry for its ending (and sometimes to its registrar), and the answer is kept on our server for up to an hour so a second check is instant.

Questions people ask

What’s the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?

WHOIS is the old text service for domain registration data. RDAP is its modern replacement: the same kind of information in a structured form, served over HTTPS. Most registries now answer RDAP, and that’s what this lookup reads.

Why are the owner’s details hidden?

Privacy rules mean registries and registrars usually hide the personal details of whoever registered a name. You can still reach the owner through the registrar, which forwards messages or has a contact form.

Why does the expiry date look a year ahead?

On the expiry day many registries renew the name for a year automatically, then wait up to 45 days for the registrar to confirm or cancel. During that time the registry’s date can already show next year, even if the name is about to lapse.

Is the lookup free?

Yes, and there’s nothing to sign up for. A gentle limit on checks per minute and per day keeps it quick for everyone and polite to the registries.
