Who hosts this site?

Type a domain and we’ll read its public DNS to tell you where the website lives, who runs the nameservers and who handles the email. Free, no sign-up, and we don’t keep what you type.

For example example.com or www.example.com. Pasting a full web address works too.

Nothing checked yet

Enter a domain above. We’ll look at its website, nameservers and mail servers in a few seconds.

What this checks

  • Where the website points: a known host by its CNAME, or the network its address is on.
  • Who runs the nameservers, so you know where the records are managed.
  • Which provider receives the domain’s email.
  • Whether the name is parked at a parking service.

How we name a network

Every IP address is announced to the internet by a network with an AS number. We ask Team Cymru’s public IP-to-ASN service, over DNS, which network that is. A CDN such as Cloudflare answers for many sites hosted elsewhere, so the network is where visitors connect, not always where the site is built.

What we keep

Only a daily count of how many checks ran and how they ended. Not the domain you typed, not your address, no cookies. The domain travels in the form, never in the web address.

Questions people ask

Can this tell me who owns a website?

No. It shows where the site, DNS and email are run. To see who a domain is registered with, use a WHOIS lookup.

Why does it say Cloudflare when the site is hosted somewhere else?

Cloudflare and other CDNs sit in front of many sites. Visitors connect to the CDN, which fetches the site from its real host, and that host is hidden on purpose.

What does parked mean?

A parked domain points at a parking service that shows ads or a for-sale notice instead of a site. It usually means the owner isn’t using the name.

How do I move my site to another host?

Set the site up at the new host first, then change the records where your DNS is managed (the DNS answer above). Keep the email records as they are unless you’re moving email too.
