.de domains: price and rules

.de is Germany’s country-code ending, managed by DENIC. Here is what it costs at the registrars we checked and the rules that come with it.

The rules

Registry

DENIC eG, the manager IANA lists for .de in its root zone database.

RDAP lookups

No. IANA’s RDAP list has no server for .de, so its expiry date cannot be read automatically from the registry.

Who can register

DENIC’s terms do not ask for a German address up front, but if the domain holder is not domiciled in Germany, DENIC can ask them to name, within two weeks, an authorised representative in Germany to receive official and court documents.

HTTPS rule

No. .de as a whole is not on the Chromium HSTS preload list, so browsers do not force HTTPS for every .de name. An individual domain can still be preloaded or send its own HSTS header.

Accents and other scripts

Yes, with limits. DENIC accepts umlauts and other special characters, but only from Latin-script alphabets: it allows exclusively Latin characters in .de names.

If it expires

After a .de domain is deleted, its former holder can still get it back during a 30-day Redemption Grace Period; when that ends the domain is released and anyone can register it.

What .de costs

Lowest renewal we checked: $4.07 a year at Porkbun, on 2026-10-25.

Prices in USD for one year, per registrar, with the date each was checked

Porkbun — $4.07 — —

USD, before tax, as each registrar published it on the date shown; the date links to the page we read. Three years is the first year plus two renewals. A dash means nobody has checked that price yet. Registrars run offers and charge more for premium names, so confirm the price at the registrar before you buy. We don’t sell domains and these links are not affiliate links.

Facts and prices on this page were checked between 2026-10-25 and 2026-10-27.

Common uses of .de

  • Businesses, organisations and people whose audience is in Germany.
  • Names with umlauts and other special characters from Latin-script alphabets, which DENIC accepts.

What we keep

Nothing. These pages take no input, set no cookies and count nothing about you. Prices and facts are read by hand and by a monthly job from public registrar and registry pages, and every one shows where and when we checked it.

Questions people ask

How much does a .de domain cost?

It depends on the registrar. The table above shows the first-year, renewal and transfer price at each registrar we checked, with the date of each check. Compare the renewal price: it is what you pay every year after the first.

Who can register a .de domain?

What happens if I don’t renew a .de domain?

After a .de domain is deleted, its former holder can still get it back during a 30-day Redemption Grace Period; when that ends the domain is released and anyone can register it. Your registrar may add its own dates and fees, so check with them.
